For me the best and most effective webmaster tools are those which are designed to do one job and do it quickly. A good tool should save you time and effort, and that means that it should have the features you need and nothing more. Maximum Traffic's Thumbnail Generator is a great example of that philosophy. This is a small desktop application which will create thumbnails from images stored on your computer.That's all it does. It takes up very little room and has only two buttons. In fact it's so straightforward I can't even justify showing a picture of it here. This has to be one of the simplest and most straightforward tools I have ever used. Once you have this installed you can quickly thumbnail batches of images by browsing to the folder containing the images you wish to work with and selecting them. You then specify the size of the thumbnails you require and click 'Generate'. The software then automatically copies the images as thumbs and saves them in the same folder with an appended filename. All that remains is to upload them to your server and put them to work! Of course the fact that it is designed for one purpose doesn't mean we can't use it for other jobs too. The fact that we can specify the size of the created images means we can also use it for jobs such as regularising the size of images in a folder, bulk cropping. Or even appending a keyword to the filenames in the batch.
