Page 1 of 4 With any new blog or website it takes a little experimentation to find out what your surfers react to best when it comes to advertising messages. But some things don't vary too much with online content and so what works well on one blog, should do well on another. Here's my tips for positioning ads on your pages.
Go High. When we talk about web marketing we often mention the 'fold'. That's a saying from the newspaper business where broad sheets are often folded in half before placing on the newstand. Doing so, of course, means that the reader can only see the top half of the page. Obviously the adverts they carry in the top section will be seen by more people, and the same is true of web pages. The only difference being that when we talk about the 'fold', we are referring to that area of the page which is off the monitor and that the surfer has to scroll down to see. The most valuable areas on your blog are therefore in the top half of the screen.
Queue Early. The best place for your banner ads to be noticed is right at the top of the page, or at least as close to it as possible. Not only does that area grab the attention quicker, but images placed there are usually the first to be called from the server and displayed. That means that if the rest of your page takes a few seconds to load, then your readers have nothing to look at but your banner ad. If you make it intriguing then it should stick in their mind to come back to after they have checked out your content. Remember they have come to see your images, make sure your banner loads first.
Take It To The Reader. Some surfers will read your posts, others will just look at the pretty pictures. Not all posts appeal to all readers though, and if the text in your first post doesn't engage them then it's unlikely they will take the time to read your second. That fact, together with it's high central position makes your leading post the second best place to run position your ads. Contextual text ads written into the content here should also get more clicks than in your other posts.
